TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Nigerian striker Salisu Abdullahi 'Alhaji' Gero joined Iran's Esteghlal football team on Wednesday.

After Mame Thiam's departure, the Blues signed the striker to strengthen their frontline.

Alhaji Gero, who has most recently played in stersunds in the Allsvenskan, Sweden's top flight, has joined Esteghlal on a three-year contract for an undisclosed fee.

Gero made his debut for the Nigeria national under-20 football team at the eight-nation tournament in South Africa.

Esteghlal has recently signed contracts with Iraqi attacking midfielder Humam Tariq Faraj Naoush and German midfielder Markus Neumayr.
