LAGOS, Nov. 24 (Xinhua) -- At least 23 Boko Haram militants have been killed by Nigerian troops during recent operations in the country's restive northeast region, a military spokesperson said Tuesday.

Spokesman Benard Onyeuko told reporters that they have carried out aggressive clearance operations, ambushes, robust day-and-night patrols in order to get rid of the remnants of the Boko Haram militants.

He said several terrorist elements were neutralized and a large quantity of equipment was captured, including logistics consignment.

He disclosed that troops also intercepted some Boko Haram militants when they were attempting to collect ransom for their abducted victims, and two women and three children were rescued.
