HOUSTON -- Fueled by high winds and drought, wildfires starting more than one month ago continue burning in U.S. southwestern mountain state of New Mexico as of Tuesday, threatening more communities in the Rocky Mountain foothills while forcing some local schools going virtual.

The wildfires have burned more than 318 square miles (824 square km) of ponderosa forests across the state, destroying about 300 structures, according to local media reports. (US-Wildfire)

HAVANA -- The death toll from last week's explosion at a historic hotel in downtown Havana climbed to 42 on Tuesday, after two more bodies were recovered from the rubble, official sources said.

According to the Public Health Ministry, 96 people were injured in the blast at the five-star Saratoga Hotel, and 13 adults and five minors remain hospitalized at six city hospitals. (Cuba-Explosion)

KUWAIT CITY -- The Kuwaiti emir on Tuesday issued an order accepting the resignation of the government, the official Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) reported.

STOCKHOLM -- Nine children in Sweden have fallen ill with suspected acute hepatitis without any apparent cause, the country's Public Health Agency said on Tuesday.

"It is very unusual but does occur that a child suffers from acute hepatitis with an unknown cause. The Swedish Public Health Agency is investigating whether the cases we see now represent an increase in acute hepatitis with an unknown cause or not," state epidemiologist Anders Lindblom said in a press release. LAGOS -- A disaster triggered by a severe downpour on Monday evening in northeast Nigeria's Yobe state killed five people, a statement from the emergency agency said on Tuesday.

The rain was accompanied by very strong winds, causing havoc on residents and buildings in some communities of Damaturu, the state capital, said the State Emergency Management Agency in a statement. (Nigeria-Rainstorm)
