LAGOS, June 20 (Xinhua) -- Nigerian police have nabbed 87 suspected kidnappers in the latest crackdown on criminals in the nation's northeast state of Adamawa in the past three months, local police said on Monday.
Sikiru Akande, the police chief in Adamawa, told reporters in Yola, the state capital, that the suspects were arrested during various operations at different locations from March to date in the state.
Akande said operatives had also rescued 20 kidnapped victims in the past three months in the state.
The police chief called on citizens to remain law-abiding and vigilant and to continue to support the police by promptly reporting criminals and their activities to the nearest police station.
In recent months, there have been a series of gunmen's attacks on civilians and security operatives in the most populous African country.
