LAGOS, Jan. 27 (Xinhua) -- The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) confirmed on Friday a commercial train derailment in a suburb of Abuja, the nation's capital, saying no casualties have been recorded.

The NRC has suspended train services along the rail corridor between Abuja and the northern city of Kaduna due to the derailment at the capital's Kubwa area on Friday afternoon, Niyi Alli, a NRC operations director, told reporters in Abuja.

"There was no casualty recorded. We sincerely apologize to passengers whose planned trips were affected by this incident," Alli said, without disclosing the cause of the incident.

A rescue team has been sent to the site to re-rail the rolling stock and repair the track.

The train service along the corridor resumed operations in early December 2022, after being suspended for over eight months due to a train attack in March 2022.

The attack caused at least eight deaths, several injuries, and over 60 kidnappings, according to previous reports by local media.
