ABUJA, Feb. 1 (Xinhua) -- An office of Nigeria's Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the southern state of Anambra was razed early Wednesday by a group of arsonists who attacked the facility and a nearby police station, local police said.
One person was killed and another injured during the attack on the police station in the Ojoto area of the state, Tochukwu Ikenga, a spokesman for the police in Anambra, told reporters in the state's commercial city of Onitsha.
Ikenga said the "hoodlums", armed with explosive devices and petrol bombs, earlier drove to the INEC office in the Idemili South local government area of the state in four minivans. They thereafter went on to attack the police station and a residential building within the premises.
There have been recent attacks on INEC offices in the southeastern part of Nigeria, ahead of the presidential election due in this month.
