ABUJA, May 24 (Xinhua) -- At least two people were killed and three others injured after a bus traveling in Nigeria's southwestern state of Oyo lost control and crashed on Wednesday, the traffic police said.
Joshua Adekanye, a commander for the Federal Road Safety Corps in Oyo State, told reporters in the state capital of Ibadan that the bus rammed into a barrier erected by a local road construction company in Alakia, along the Ibadan-Ife expressway, after its brake failed.
Two male passengers lost their lives on the spot while the injured, including the bus driver, were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment, Adekanye said.
The road traffic official cautioned motorists always to ensure their vehicles are in good condition before embarking on a journey and avoid overspeeding.
Deadly road accidents are frequently reported in Nigeria, often caused by overloading, bad road conditions, and reckless driving.
