KAMPALA, Sept. 11 (Xinhua) -- Uganda Cricket Cranes captain Riazat Ali Shah has warned that they are more than hungry to come out top at the ICC Men's T20 Cricket World Cup qualifiers.
Shah told Xinhua on Thursday that the team has trained well and is motivated to qualify for a second straight T20 World Cup. "We know it will be a tough task, but we are well prepared and know what to expect," said the captain.
The ICC Men's T20 Cricket World Cup Africa qualifiers is slated for September 19 to October 5 in Harare, Zimbabwe.
Head coach Abhay Sharma said he has named a strong team that he believes has the capacity to deliver and get the positive results. "It is a mixture of experience and youthfulness and we have players who have the capacity to turn the game round," he said.
The coach made it clear that the three friendly matches they will have in South Africa will also sharpen the team.
After the South Africa friendlies, the Cricket Cranes will play another two warm-up matches before the tournament kicks off.
Uganda is placed in Group B alongside Kenya, Tanzania and hosts Zimbabwe, while Group A has Namibia, Botswana, Nigeria and Malawi.
Only two African teams will qualify for the 2026 T20 Cricket World Cup in Sri Lanka and India.
