Trkiye ready to work with African countries against terrorist threat: president

ANKARA, June 4 (Xinhua) -- Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said here Thursday that Trkiye is ready to support African countries against the terrorist threat in the region, especially in Sahel.

"We stand by our friendly and brotherly countries in the fight against terrorist groups that sow instability, especially in the Sahel region of the continent," Erdogan said during a joint press conference with visiting Niger's President Abdourahamane Tchiani following their bilateral meeting.

"We continue to develop our relations with African countries on the basis of equal partnerships, mutual respect, and win-win principles," Erdogan added.

Tchiani, for his part, thanked Trkiye for supporting Niger's defense industry, among others.

Tchiani arrived in Trkiye earlier in the day for his first official visit to the country, where both sides signed a series of cooperation agreements.

According to Turkish media, Trkiye's trade with Africa grew nearly tenfold from 2002 to roughly 40 billion U.S. dollars by 2025, while its investments in Africa soared to 10 billion dollars in 2024 from 67 million dollars in 2003.
